An electric steam boiler is a boiler that produces steam using electricity rather than through the combustion of a fuel source. This type of boiler is used to generate steam for process purposes in many places such as laundries, food processing plants and hospitals. Although they cost more to run than gas or oil boilers, they are popular for their simplicity and ease of use.Due to the high current required, they are usually powered by a three-phase power supply. They convert electrical energy to heat with almost 100% efficiency, but overall thermal efficiency is variable depending on power generation efficiency.

Making steam with an electric boiler

The process of generating steam with an electric boiler is fairly simple.Electric current is passed through the heating element, which acts as a resistor to generate heat through resistance.Water from the system or tank then flows through or near this heating element in a pipe or tank, heating the water to the proper temperature and then making the water hot enough to boil and become saturated steam,at which point the saturated steam passes through the steam pipeline at the outlet of the electric boiler body is transported to the place where it is needed. An electric steam boiler works in a very similar way to a heating boiler, only the water is heated differently.

Traditional oil-fired boilers often require several different components to operate successfully. In contrast, electric boilers are relatively simple devices.Additionally, since electric boilers do not use complex forms of heat exchange, electric boilers do not contain many of the potential hazards typically present in oil-fired boilers.Electric boilers are also generally easier to maintain, as they do not require tube replacement, while fuel heated boilers often require tube replacement due to soot and fuel residue, or any fire maintenance required for fuel heated boilers.Electric boilers have a smaller carbon footprint and require less overall space than traditional comparable fuel-heated steam boilers, making them ideal for small businesses requiring a boiler.

Other benefits of using electric steam boiler

Some other possible benefits that should be considered are sustainability, as they require low maintenance; marketability, as "greener" is better;and safety, as it is less hazardous than traditional fire-heated boilers.
