Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) may reduce atopic dermatitis (AD) through its bactericidal effects (especially reducing Staphylococcus aureus) and anti-inflammatory effects (reducing the activity of histamine, leukotriene B4 and interleukin-2) In order to further confirm the pathology of itching caused by hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Research method of hypochlorous acid

The study was conducted in accordance with the established protocol and in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other applicable regulatory requirements. This study was conducted in two stages using a blind method to study the antipruritic effect of HOCl on patients diagnosed with atopic dermatitis (AD).

The subject's atopic dermatitis (AD) met the Hanifin criteria, and the pruritus severity score was higher than 2 points (0-4). Thirty subjects were included in this project, 20 were randomly divided into the treatment group (HOCl), and 10 were randomly divided into the untreated control group. The subjects used the solution containing HOCl for 72 hours of treatment, and recorded the usage status accordingly.

The three main indicators used are Participant Overall Assessment (PGA), Investigator Overall Assessment (IGA) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) Pruritus Score. The incidence of adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs) and local skin reactions leading to discontinuation were recorded. Measurements were taken at 0 hours, 24 hours and 72 hours after treatment. A photograph of a representative area of the affected skin was taken.

Result of the experiment of hypochlorous acid

Studies have shown that the average VAS pruritus scores of the two groups at 0 hours are similar. Between 0:00 and 72 hours, the average changes in PGA and IGA scores were significantly reduced, which supports the effectiveness of HOCl treatment (PGA: p value = 0.128; IGA: p = 0.012). There was a significant difference in the average VAS score of itching between the treatment group and the untreated group between 0 hours and 72 hours after the medication, while the average change in percentage of the HOCl treatment group was significantly reduced (improved).

The analysis showed that 73.7% of subjects who received HOCl treatment and 30.0% of subjects who did not receive treatment had reduced pruritus within 72 hours after the initial administration. There are no adverse reactions caused by the use of hypochlorous acid (HOCl).

Conclusion

This study showed that compared with the 72-hour untreated group, the 24-hour application of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) solution can reduce the itching associated with atopic dermatitis (AD), and the effect is significantly better than the 72-hour untreated group.
